02311 Nutrition Readings
About eighty percent of the food on shelves of supermarkets today didn't exist 100 years ago. — Larry McCleary, Feed Your Brain, Lose Your Belly
There are different philosophies of nutrition and discussions of nutrition can get as heated as a religious or political discussion. I am not in the business of prescribing any particular philosophy of nutrition. Instead, I believe you should read widely and make your own decisions.
Here are some online readings that represent four of the primary schools in food nutrition.
The first is about the USDA Food Pyramid. It can be fairly said that that describes the position of mainstream nutritionists.
The second is the Weston Price Foundation philosophy, which emphasizes whole and organic foods, fermentation, and many traditional food practices.
The third is lacto-ovo vegetarianism, which is a vegetarian diet that includes eggs and dairy.
The fourth is veganism, which uses no animal products whatsoever.
